Dear Reader,
OE Photo
It's one thing to roll out Ethernet.  It's another to do it profitably.  With Pulsecom's OE, there is no need to wait for an Ethernet backbone before offering Ethernet services to  small or mid sized customers.  You can minimize installation costs as well as capital expenditures by leveraging your existing SONET network to provide Ethernet services virtually anywhere - at the customer premise, at cell sites, or between buildings.

logoEthernet Extensions over OC3 SONET
OE

The OE transports 10/100Mb Ethernet service over SONET based OC3 fiber as shown here.

 OE application

Because the transport is standard SONET, the fiber may also be terminated directly into a SONET mux for transport to a distant Ethernet gateway.

  • Compact, NCTE Form Factor - Commonly used NCTE mountings or Pulsecom CPE, wall, and rack mountings ensure installation is possible virtually anywhere-including DLC cabinets
  • Minimal CAP EX - Stand-alone design means no systems or common cards.   One module is all you need to provide Ethernet service virtually anywhere.
  • Minimal Training and Turn-up Time - Optionless SONET (patent pending) eliminates OC3 provisioning simplifying turn-up
  • Flexible Powering - 24V, -48V, 120VAC or span powering simplifies installation at cell site or telco environments
  • Plug-and-Play Migration - Gigabit Ethernet, DS1 and DS3 services can be added simply by adding or replacing a module
  • Efficient Fiber Usage - Modular optics support 1310/1550nm, CWDM and single fiber bi-directional transport, and the ability to use existing SONET muxes can help avoid fiber exhaustion
  • Minimal Delay and Jumbo Frame Support - Supports evolving network needs

OE Applications

  • Metro Ethernet Service Delivery
  • Ethernet Delivery to Cell Sites
  • LAN Extensions Between Buildings
The OE acts as a straight-through, Ethernet pipe and therefore does not duplicate the switching and routing functions performed by the end equipment.  This ensures minimal delay - often the most critical performance criteria.
