Bigger is not always better. 
 
As the network moves to Ethernet, many SONET diagnostics that help assure network performance are being lost.
 
For example, Ethernet provides for packet loss monitoring rather than bit error monitoring.  The loss of a couple small packets may be negligible.  The loss of a couple jumbo packets used in a video transmission (which can be more than 75,000 bits in length) can be critical.  Ethernet "lost packet" diagnostics can't tell the difference.
 
Further, many fiber optic facilities are beginning to show their age.  Poor splices, mechanical damage, and bend radius violations can make qualification for the demands of 10G transport very difficult.
 
A smaller and better solution?
 
Pulsecom's G2HC can trunk up to 16 fully independent, full rate GigEs over one fiber pair using CWDM optics - twice the capacity of a 10G system at 25% of the facility transmission rate - to better deal with the realities of optical impairments.  And G2HC Facility GuardTM bit error detection uses Pulsecom's patent pending Enhanced Link Loss Forwarding (ELLF) technology with SONET-quality non-intrusive diagnostics to alert network centers of degraded performance well before Ethernet speeds are compromised.

A single G2HC module provides two, independent, full-rate GigE interfaces.  When deployed with CWDM optics, up to 16 GigE circuits may be transported over a single fiber pair - twice 10G bandwidth.

The benefits of G2HC GigE Aggregation are simple:
  • More capacity
  • Longer reach
  • Simpler facility qualification
  • Avoids 10G "all-in-one" maintenance issues
Perhaps most critical:  The G2HC acts as a GigE pipe rather than a switch or router to avoid latency issues that can jeopardize network performance as traffic levels increase.  
 
Amazing but true:  Pulsecom's G2HC plugs into many existing T1 and/or HDSL "Smart Jack" shelves.  Miniaturization and climate hardening permit deployment in existing RT cabinets that are usually far too full for a new "system".
  
Facility GuardTM
Packet Errors = Retransmissions 
Ethernet is too forgiving!
 
Packets can range from 512 bits to over 76,000 bits.  Therefore, "Lost Packet" statistics can not provide a meaningful measure of facility impairments.
 
Facility Guard, Pulsecom's patent pending Enhanced Link Loss Forwarding (ELLF) technology provides SONET-precise bit error monitoring.
 
Pulsecom's ELLF continuously monitors facilities for true bit errors.  Bit errors above 10-6 level trigger standard Link Loss Forwarding so that traffic can be automatically routed to a different path.
