Pulsecom/APT Partner to Produce Broadband Audio Transport
Pulsecom and Audio Processing Technology, Ltd. (APT), have formed a partnership that has produced a breakthrough in high bandwidth public network audio transport. The Pulsecom/APT Program Channel Access Unit (PCAU), capitalizing on APT's apt-X™ 16-bit audio compression technology which is currently used in all Digital Theater System (DTS) professional cinema sound systems, enables broadcast quality audio from any D4, DLC or NGDLC carrier system.
The Pulsecom/APT Program Channel Access Unit sets a new standard for high quality Program Channel audio performance. Using industry standard ISDN Basic Rate Interface 2-wire twisted pair transport, the Pulsecom/APT PCAU interfaces with standard DLC, NGDLC and D4 ISDN line cards for connection up to 18 kFt away from the carrier system. Ideal for broadcast applications, the apt-Xª algorithm used by the Pulsecom/APT PCAU permits multiple tandem connections without degradation (conventional encoding schemes lose as much as 95% of their content after just 4 tandem or "back-to-back" connections). While "lossy compression" algorithms such as ISO MPEG Layer II and Layer III introduce substantial encoding/decoding delays and make real-time interactive conversations impractical, the PCAU delivers near-instantaneous encoding and decoding. And, unlike conventional program channel units that require a full six DS0s to support 15 kHz circuits, the PCAU requires only two DS0s to provide 20 Hz to 15 kHz audio Transport. With full NEBS Level 3 compliance, plug-and-play Type 400 mechanics and network standard loopbacks, the PCAU is designed to support high volume deployment. Flow-through provisioning frees operating companies from the "manual workarounds" and "special assemblies" that have heretofore prevented operating companies from selling Broadband Audio along side Broadband Data.
